There are many different types of defibrillators. An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that diagnoses and treats cardiac arrest by re-establishing an effective heart rhythm. Treatment and prevention methods still need to be further investigated, but a number of different options have been tried that may be helpful.
